Spotlight: Laura Norris – Cultivating Community at Ragazza

Writer: Queer Dinner ClubQueer Dinner Club

At Queer Dinner Club, we’re passionate about highlighting individuals and businesses that foster inclusivity and bring people together through the simple joy of sharing a meal. This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight Laura Norris, the owner of Ragazza Food & Wine, who has been serving up more than just Italian comfort food in Kansas City—she’s been cultivating a welcoming space for the LGBTQIA+ community for over a decade.

A Taste of Family History

Laura Norris opened Ragazza in 2013, with recipes passed down from her mother and grandmother, blending family heritage with her love for Italian cuisine. Ragazza, which means “girl’s kitchen” in Italian, originally started in a cozy, intimate space on Broadway Boulevard but has since grown into a beloved staple in Midtown at the corner of 43rd and Main Streets.

From the beginning, Ragazza has been more than just a restaurant; it’s been a hub for community. Whether you’re indulging in Laura’s signature meatballs served with focaccia or sharing stories over a glass of carefully selected Italian wine, you can feel the warmth and care that Laura and her team pour into everything they do. Her journey from community development to the restaurant world is inspiring, and her dedication to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment is one of the many reasons we love partnering with Ragazza.

A Place for Community and Connection

Ragazza isn’t just about food; it’s about creating a space where everyone feels welcome. Laura has long been recognized for her commitment to inclusivity, and her restaurants have become a safe haven for the LGBTQIA+ community year-round. It’s no surprise that Ragazza was a natural choice for hosting our upcoming Queer Dinner Club event, where we’ll gather to foster genuine connections over a shared meal.
