Michael Ong: A Creative Force Behind Q Kansas City Brand Identity

If you've attended any Queer Bar Takeover events, you've likely encountered the distinctive brand identity designed by Michael Ong. His visionary designs have not only set the tone for our monthly gatherings but also laid the foundation for the visual identity of our new venture, Q Kansas City.

With a history of designing logos and brand identities for LGBTQIA+ communities and organizations, Michael's expertise is widely recognized. His collaboration with Lance Pierce dates back to the first rebranding of the Mid-America GLCC, now known as the Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce. This partnership was the beginning of a series of successful projects that have elevated the visibility and impact of queer spaces in Kansas City.


As a Video and Commercial Director by profession, Michael also boasts an extensive background in graphic design and brand identity. His passion for the queer community often leads him to take on projects outside his day job, such as creating projection designs for special concerts by the Heartland Men’s Chorus. His work seamlessly blends creativity and advocacy, reflecting his deep commitment to our community.

Michael is thrilled that Queer Bar has found its "permanent home," and its brand identity has evolved and matured into its latest, most refined iteration—a single, iconic letter. This sleek and stylish 'Q' logo symbolizes not just our name but our mission: to create a vibrant and inclusive space for the LGBTQIA+ community in Kansas City. Michael is super proud and excited to launch this iconic identity and share it with the community. Plus, there’s going to be some awesome merch you won’t want to miss!
