Reimagining the Queer Wedding: A Styled Shoot at Q Kansas City

At Q Kansas City, we don’t just host events, we help tell stories. And this one? It was a powerful reimagining of what a wedding can look like when it centers queer joy, trans beauty, and uninhibited self-expression.

When Robin Delgado, founder of Love Notes Wedding Content Co, a queer and Latina-owned business, reached out with a vision to reimagine the gay wedding through a styled shoot, we didn’t hesitate. The concept was bold and long overdue: showcase what’s possible when queer people, especially trans and nontraditional couples, are placed at the center of the wedding experience.

Held inside our venue at Q Kansas City, this Pride Month shoot brought together a dream team of LGBTQ+ and ally vendors and it was nothing short of stunning. Every element, from floral design to fashion to the emotion on each model’s face, told a deeper story: that love is most beautiful when it’s authentic. That tradition doesn’t have to mean conformity. And that our community, as always, leads the way.

The shoot wasn’t just about capturing gorgeous photos it was about possibility. And no one embodied that spirit more than Landon Patterson, the bride at the heart of the shoot. Here’s what she shared:

Bride in a white gown reclines on a yellow chair, relaxed pose. Blue floral wallpaper background enhances elegance.

“It meant so much to be included, especially as a trans woman. There isn’t a lot of media, lookbooks, or representation of trans women getting married. So getting to see myself in that light was truly magical. From trying on the dress to getting my hair done and stepping in front of the camera, it felt like a fairytale, and honestly, a little emotional. It gave me hope and excitement that I really can have that special day for myself one day. And if it made me feel that way, I know it might do the same for another young trans girl, trans boy, or queer person who sees these photos and realizes: they can have the wedding of their dreams too.” ~Landon Patterson

This shoot isn’t just a pretty moment, it’s a cultural shift. It’s a reminder that queer love leads the way. That we set the trends. And that when we’re the ones telling the story, it looks a whole lot more beautiful.
