Meet the Charities Benefiting from Q’s Halloween Extravaganza

When Q Kansas City throws down for Sapphic Spell Oct 24th and Boys of the Night Oct 25th, it’s more than a riot of glitter, beats, and decadence. It’s also an act of love, resource-sharing, and radical care. Ten percent of all sales over the two nights goes directly to two local queer organizations that need our support now more than ever. Let’s take a closer look at them—you’ll see exactly why we chose these partners and why every dollar and every dance floor decision matters.

Our Spot KC: A Sanctuary for Queer Folks Who Need a Home

Red star on blue circle, text below reads "OUR SPOT KC" and "EMPOWERING THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY," conveying support and empowerment.

What They Do

Our Spot KC is a local organization that provides holistic support for LGBTQ+ individuals—especially those facing housing insecurity, discrimination, or a lack of affirming services. One of their flagship initiatives, Lion House, offers transitional housing and rapid rehousing specifically for LGBTQ+ youth, adults, and families experiencing homelessness.

Lion House is more than just a roof overhead—it’s a place for healing and rebuilding. Residents receive wraparound support including case management, mental health counseling, life-skills workshops, job assistance, and community-building opportunities.

Why They’re So Needed

LGBTQ+ individuals are disproportionately likely to experience homelessness, often due to family rejection, economic barriers, or escaping unsafe environments. Traditional shelters can be unwelcoming or unsafe for queer and trans people, leaving many without affirming options.

Our Spot KC also works with local agencies and schools to provide training on creating inclusive and supportive environments, expanding their impact beyond housing. Their outreach programs bring food, resources, and community to those who need it most.

Your 10% Helps With:

  • Keeping beds open and operational at Lion House

  • Providing mental health and life-skills support

  • Funding community outreach programs

  • Expanding capacity to house and serve more people

Because of their work, many LGBTQ+ individuals who once had nowhere safe to go can now find dignity, stability, and a path forward.

AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City: Supporting People Living with HIV

AIDS Service Foundation logo with a red ribbon as the "I" in AIDS. Black text says Service Foundation Kansas City. Bold, supportive mood.

What They Do

The AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City (ASF KC) is a cornerstone in local HIV/AIDS care and advocacy. Formed in 1992, the foundation brings together community resources to fund, educate, and support organizations serving people living with HIV.

ASF KC raises funds and distributes grants to direct-service organizations such as KC Care Health Center, SAVE Inc., and Hope Care Center. These partners provide medical treatment, housing, counseling, and emergency assistance to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. ASF KC also leads awareness campaigns and events like AIDS Walk Kansas City to reduce stigma and promote testing and education.

Why They’re So Needed

Thousands of Kansas Citians live with HIV, many facing barriers like healthcare costs, stigma, and housing instability. The monthly cost of treatment can reach over $2,000, making the foundation’s financial support crucial.

ASF KC also plays a vital role in public education and advocacy, helping reduce stigma and ensuring more people get tested and stay in care. Their coordinated approach has led to impressive local outcomes—nearly three-quarters of people living with HIV in Kansas City have suppressed viral loads, a key step toward ending the epidemic.

Your 10% Helps With:

  • Sustaining medical, mental health, and social service programs

  • Funding grants for smaller frontline organizations

  • Supporting housing and food assistance programs

  • Expanding outreach and education initiatives

Through ASF KC’s work, individuals living with HIV receive the care, dignity, and stability they deserve—reminding us that advocacy and awareness save lives.

Why We Chose These Partners

These two organizations represent different but equally essential forms of queer care:

  • Our Spot KC focuses on housing stability and safety, ensuring LGBTQ+ individuals have secure, affirming places to live and grow.

  • ASF KC addresses the ongoing health crisis of HIV/AIDS, supporting access to life-saving care and fighting the stigma that still surrounds the condition.

With your presence and participation, you turn every dance, every drink, and every dollar into meaningful impact. These organizations don’t just deserve our support—they depend on it to keep their life-changing work alive.
