Behind the Bottle: Why Tannin’s Wines Are Different

Every bottle at Tannin tells a story. At Queer Dinner Club, you’ll sip those stories while sharing your own.
When you walk into Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen, it doesn’t feel like one of those stuffy wine bars where you’re afraid to mispronounce a grape. It feels comfortable. Approachable. The kind of place where you can order a glass you’ve never heard of and trust the staff to guide you without judgment.

That’s because Tannin has always been about curiosity. Their wine list isn’t just long for the sake of it — it’s curated from small, passionate winemakers around the world.
These are farmers and families who pour their heart into every bottle. And when you taste it, you can tell. There’s a difference between something mass-produced and something made with care, and Tannin makes that difference easy (and fun) to explore.
Of course, wine is only half the story. The food at Tannin is built to complement what’s in your glass. Think cheese boards that are basically an invitation to linger, seasonal small plates that surprise you, and entrées that make you want to come back again next week. Everything is thoughtful, but never pretentious.

That’s why we’re so excited to bring Queer Dinner Club here on Monday, September 8 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM. Just like Tannin pairs food and wine, we’ll be pairing people. You’ll sit with a small group, meet new faces, and let the conversation flow. Some of the best stories we’ve heard at Dinner Club have come over a glass of wine — so it feels fitting to host this gathering at a place where every bottle has its own story too.
Tickets are $10 and include your spot at the table plus a complimentary appetizer. Food and drinks are available from Tannin’s menu, so you can make the night as light or as full as you’d like.
Tannin has been part of Kansas City’s Crossroads neighborhood for over a decade, and on September 8 we get to add our stories to theirs. Come ready to sip, savor, and connect.
